Welcome to the home page of Los Angeles LB SPINDULYS, a multi-generation and internationally-recognized Lithuanian folk-dance ensemble which is rich in both history and activities, performing programs of Lithuanian folk songs and dances to audiences world wide.

LB Spindulys is celebrating its 60th anniversary this summer with a trip to Lithuania to participate with dances at the 'Amžių sutartinė' 1000 year celebration in Vilnius, Lithuania, and to host a 60th-Jubilee party at the medieval island castle of Trakai on July 7th, 2009.

LB Spindulys is also launching a Spindulys Archive Project which is preserving for future generations, including historians and scholars, the collected film-video-audio documentary works of Paulius Jasiukonis. Paulius was a long time documentarist of Los Angeles Lithuanian community events who passed away in 2008 leaving behind a number of remarkable documentary films dating back to 1963. This material is fading and donations are being solicited to support this project.

2008 and 2009 were exciting times for Spindulys dancers and teachers.
On July 6th, 2008 over 1200 dancers from around the world, including Los Angeles Spindulys, performed a spectacular program, mixing mythology and dance, under the artistic direction of Danguole Varnas, at the Galen Center, downtown Los Angeles. This event and other activities has brought awards and distinction to Spindulys and its director Danguole R. Varnas.

Historical Background

SPINDULYS is under the direction of Danguole R. Varnas.  It's origins can be traced to 1949, when Ona Razutiene, a Lithuanian immigrant, founded the first Lithuanian folk song and dance group in Los Angeles.  This original group continued to thrive and grow, and in 1977 was re-named 'SPINDULYS', and the complete history is available as a Historical Book.

In the past decades, SPINDULYS has distinguished itself in numerous performances at local and international song and folk dance festivals around the world.
